Ultra Sound Baby Pics
All of these were taken September 23rd - we're in week 22! I know most of these look like nothing or just a strange object, but I thought I would share anyway :)
This one "shows" she's a girl - we don't see what they're talking about specifically, but the doc and technician seemed positive
A photo of her leg - surprising that its actually clear!
Leg #2
Upper body shot but she's covering her face with her hands
Another upper body shot to view her arms
Baby upside down. Photo shows her spine and brief outlines of her legs and head
A little bit of everythings shot - arms, legs, head and umbilical cord

Sugar, Spice & Everything Nice....
...that's what our baby is made of!!!
This morning we went in for the "big ultrasound" appointment. The technician and doctor both said we're having a girl! In other news, the real reason they have the ultrasound is to check on the baby's development. She seems perfect! We saw her arms, legs, heart, brain, etc. Unfortunately, we couldn't really see her face because she was hiding it behind her hands. The technician said she was very "wiggly" and didn't really stay still --- I totally agree with that. Basically, we'll have a daddy's little girl on our hands - I'm already predicting it. Mostly, we're just excited that she's healthy and things are going well. We'll post some of the pictures soon!

22 Week OB Appointment
Today we met with Dr. Arnold at Jefferson OB/GYN. Each time we go to the doctor's office we will meet with a different practicioner so we can meet all the partners before Baby Silverman's birthday. He read the results of the urine analysis, initial ultrasound, blood tests and said they all look great. I was also very pleased to learn that my blood type is A+, therefore no RhoGam shots will be necessary during the pregnancy.
According to the Ultrasound and their counting, we recieved another possible due date of January 18th. Essentially, the Baby will come sometime in January or Early February, anytime it's ready. Everything seems to be going well and we are going for the "big ultrasound", to hopefully see if Baby Silverman is a boy or girl, this Wednesday at 10:15am. We're very excited to find out, and we'll keep everyone posted :)

Weeks 22-24
We have a doctor's appointment on Monday and hope to find out if Baby Silverman is a boy or a girl. Here is what the baby looks like/will look like in the next couple weeks. We are currently in week 22.

Movement: Some flutters - very sporadic
Food cravings: still Pickles
Gender: Hoping to find out on Monday!
Belly Button in or out?: Still in.
What I miss: The way my clothes used to fit me :(
What I am looking forward to: Finding out if the Baby is a boy or girl!

Weeks 22-24 (months 5): Papaya
Watch what you say -- baby is now able to hear outside noise from down in the womb. Studies show that baby finds gentle music and your own voice most soothing. Nipples are starting to sprout, and that little face is fully formed. And, baby's starting to settle into sleep cycles, snoozing about 12 to 14 hours a day. It shouldn't be hard to figure out when -- just pay attention to those kicks as they start and stop.

Craigslist = Amazing
Since before we moved into our house, I have been searching for furniture and house decorations on craigslist. Little did I know the "baby+kids" section on craigslist is even better than the "furniture" section. Over the past week, we have found Nursery Furniture, a High Chair, and Bassinet for much less than we would pay for them brand new.

Week 21
It's crazy to think that so much can happen over the course of a week. The slight weight gain and looking pregnant is pretty crazy. I love reading the fruit analogy online to see the size of the baby each week.
According to thebump.com (http://pregnant.thebump.com/pregnancy/second-trimester/articles/your-pregnancy-week-21.aspx), the following information is now true about Baby Silverman:
Baby's now the size of a banana!
Baby's digestive system is busy creating meconium (a tarry black substance made of swallowed amniotic fluid, digestive secretion, and dead cells), which will fill the first diaper after birth. And, if baby is a girl, her womb is now stocked up with her lifetime supply of six million eggs (the number will drop to around one million by birth).
I've also seen this weekly questionnaire on other baby blogs....I'll update it every week so you can know how we're doing!
How far along? 21 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: 10ish
Sleep: Pretty good. I am def beginning to feel more tired lately though.
Best moment this week: Finding great stuff on Craigslist for the Baby. It's amazing to get gently used things for such a great deal :)
Movement: Some flutters - mostly in the evenings.
Food cravings: Pickles and also Ice Cream (separately of course)
Gender: Hoping to find out in the next week!
Belly Button in or out?: Def still in.
What I miss: Pepsi & Turkey Sandwiches.
What I am looking forward to: We have a Nurse Educator appointment this Thursday. Hopefully we'll get some good information.
Weekly Wisdom: The 'Be Band' from Target makes clothes "fit" a lot longer.
Milestones: Got furniture for the nursery and a highchair!

So how far along are you?
I found the following information on another blog (http://blog.moniqueandbenoit.com/?m=200705) and found it quite helpful. Little did I know a pregnancy is in 40 weeks or 10 lunar months. It's confusing to track with typical calendar months. Here's why:
This whole baby growing business is seriously confusing. I mean, where is the logic in telling a woman she’s 2 weeks pregnant by the time she conceives? This must be the illogical doing of men. No woman would ever make pregnancy more confusing and for that matter, longer than it has to be! Anyway, it’s starting to get quite confusing to know what month to call this pregnancy when the doctors all use weeks and there aren’t always four weeks in a month so when you count out 9 months you have an extra two weeks of days leftover that you have to fit in somewhere in there. Ugh, nothing a little googling can’t help figure out:
Months
Measured as nine months on the calendar — starting one week after your last known menstrual period.
Trimesters
Three periods of three months each. Months 1 - 3 are the first trimester, months 4 - 6 are the second trimester, and months 7 - 9 are the third trimester.
Lunar Months
Prenatal development is often measured in lunar months. Each lunar month consists of 28 days, organized into four weeks of seven days each. That means a pregnancy is 10 lunar months long!
Weeks
40 weeks from the start of your last known menstrual period. Gestation is 38 weeks from conception to birth.
(taken from http://www.maternitycorner.com/mcmag/calendar/pregnancycalendar/lunarmonths.html)
So, to boil all that down to size, it basically means you have to throw out the months on the calendar because those are just more confusing, and use weeks or lunar months to guide the calculation. This is what results:
First Trimester
Week 1 (but you aren’t pregnant yet)
Week 2 (still not pregnant)
Week 3 (conception finally occurs!)
Week 4 (early response pregnancy tests can work now)
Week 5
Week 6
Week 7
Week 8 (2 months)
Week 9
Week 10
Week 11
Week 12 (3 months)
Second Trimester
Week 13
Week 14
Week 15
Week 16
Week 17 (4 months)
Week 18
Week 19
Week 20
Week 21
Week 22 (5 months)
Week 23
Week 24
Week 25
Week 26
Week 27 (6 months)
Third Trimester
Week 28
Week 29
Week 30
Week 31 (7 months)
Week 32
Week 33
Week 34
Week 35 (8 months)
Week 36
Week 37
Week 38
Week 39
Week 40 (9 months)
SEE! It’s confusing! And to top it all off, doctors consider a pregnancy to term between 37 and 42 weeks. So, there is no exact rule about how long this is going to take having a full month of leeway at the end and still being considered “term”, especially since first pregnancies tend to go over 40 weeks.

January 23, 2010
Surprise!! We're having a baby! The due date listed above is certainly approximate. Being that the baby is a surprise we did not do any tracking, therefore, the due date is harder to estimate. The ultrasound technician informed us the date could be 1o days earlier or later, based on the size of the baby.
Some FAQ's we have gotten so far:
1. When did you find out?
We took the at home pregnancy test September 3rd and confirmed the results with a physician the next day.
2. How did you not notice symptoms?
Symptoms were attributed to changes in life. ie:
- weight gain (which was minimal) = increasingly sedentary lifestyle after moving home
- soreness during August = effects of fighting the ocean waves after the hurricane went through the OBX while we were on vacation
- mild sickness = stress about leaving JMU, finding a job, etc. The sickness began in March (way before conception)
- acne = skin reaction to environmental change after the move
3. How were you not noticing missed periods?
Some women experience bleeding while pregnant. (For more info see: http://www.pregnancy-info.net/comp_periods_pregnancy.html) My cycle is not always regular and I experienced bleeding in June and the end of July/beginning of August.
Essentially, since we had been using contraception, there was no reason I had to believe that a pregnancy was possible. This resulted in my explaining symptoms away until I missed my period in August and began to put the symptoms together.
