January 23, 2010

Surprise!! We're having a baby! The due date listed above is certainly approximate. Being that the baby is a surprise we did not do any tracking, therefore, the due date is harder to estimate. The ultrasound technician informed us the date could be 1o days earlier or later, based on the size of the baby.

Some FAQ's we have gotten so far:

1. When did you find out?

We took the at home pregnancy test September 3rd and confirmed the results with a physician the next day.

2. How did you not notice symptoms?

Symptoms were attributed to changes in life. ie:

- weight gain (which was minimal) = increasingly sedentary lifestyle after moving home
- soreness during August = effects of fighting the ocean waves after the hurricane went through the OBX while we were on vacation
- mild sickness = stress about leaving JMU, finding a job, etc. The sickness began in March (way before conception)
- acne = skin reaction to environmental change after the move

3. How were you not noticing missed periods?

Some women experience bleeding while pregnant. (For more info see: http://www.pregnancy-info.net/comp_periods_pregnancy.html) My cycle is not always regular and I experienced bleeding in June and the end of July/beginning of August.

Essentially, since we had been using contraception, there was no reason I had to believe that a pregnancy was possible. This resulted in my explaining symptoms away until I missed my period in August and began to put the symptoms together.
